The present ed. is a revision of B. Smith's translation privately printed at Washington in 1851 from the second Spanish ed. published at Valladolid, 1555. "Alva[r] Nunez Cabeac de Vaca [by T.W. Field]": p. 233-254. "Memoir of Thomas Buckingham Smith [by J.G. Shea]": p. [255]-263. The appendix includes translations of various Spanish documents relating to the expedition of Narvaez and its historian.
