| General note | The 'Journal des sçavans' was commenced on the 5th of Jan., 1665, and suppressed on the 30th of March of the same year, after the publication of 13 nos. Its publication was resumed on the 4th of Jan. 1666, during which year there appeared 42 nos. In 1667, there appeared only 16 nos.; only 13 in 1668; 4 in 1669; 1 in 1670; 3 in 1671; 8 in 1672; none in 1673, and only 2 in 1674. From 1674 to 1723 a number was published either once a fortnight or once a week, and from 1724-1792, a number appeared every month. In Dec. 1792, the publication of the 'Journal des sçavans' was discontinued, but was resumed on the 4th of Jan. 1797. On the 18th of June, however, in the same year, it was again discontinued until September 1816, after which time a number was published regularly once a month." Brit. Mus. cat. Periodicals. |
